Havana – August, 12. The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) opened at least five new projects to negotiation with foreign companies. These R&D projects has been included in the CIGB’s negotiation portfolio, which has been published in the web site http://gndp.cigb.edu.cu , to facilitate the access to the scientific community, companies and research institutions to the most up to date R&D results.
CIGB is looking for licensing agreements to carry out clinical trials and registration of a synthetic vaccine targeting the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in the first world markets. Last year, the CIGB received final approval from the Cuban regulatory authority for the vaccine against Hib , which is manufactured in a cGMP plant according to the highest regulatory standards. Last month was published in Science an article about this vaccine.
The CIGB has also developed a growth stimulator formula (Acuabio 1) able to improve surviving, growth and homogeneity during aquatic farming, when used on aquatic species. This very promising project has been recently offered for negotiation by the CIGB.
A third project for increasing productivity in aquaculture by using non hormone treated all males mono sex tilapia production, has also been opened for negotiations by the CIGB.
A new technology platform for fast and reliable expression of recombinant proteins in the milk of non transgenic animals has also been included in the CIGB’s negotiation portfolio. The Cuban institution is searching for R&D alliances for long term tissue specific expression in ruminants and microbiological validation of a manufacturing process.
The fifth R&D project opened for negotiation by the CIGB has been the development of an effective biological nematicide (HeberNem) based on Corynebacterium paurometabolum C924 strain. The interest of the CIGB is focused on evaluation agreements based on testing HeberNem effect in other countries.
