CIGB-552 novel peptide with anti-tumor effect useful for cancer treatment |
Therapeutic area |
Cancer |
Goal |
Discovery and development of drug-based peptide to treat life-threatening cancers and metastasis. |
Description |
The CIGB has developed a novel peptide, it which induces apoptosis and negatively regulates cell-cycle progression in multiple types of tumor cells in the absence of toxicity to normal cells. CIGB-552 demonstrates potent in vivo efficacy against a broad range of tumors with a considerable therapeutic window in animal xenograft model. In addition, the anti-metastasic effect is demonstrated in a lung metastasi model in mice. Moreover, CIGB-552 has been well tolerated in rodents. The mechanism of action showed by this second-generation peptide predict a potential applicability to a diverse array of human cancers, including colorectal, breast, pancreas, lung, prostate, lymphoma and others.

Patent Status |
A patent was filed claiming the anti-tumor activity of the novel peptide and their mimetics. |
Project Status |
Preclinical development.
|
Type of collaboration requested |
The aim of the collaboration is a corporate partnership to conduct further preclinical studies of the drug. The collaboration also would include the production of the peptide at the CIGB in cGMP condition and the design of the clinical trials to be conducted in the territory and in Havana, Cuba, and the joint evaluation of obtained data.
|
Competitives advantages Milestones |
Experience in molecular biology and experimental oncology, highly skilled staff, to perform preclinical studies, development of the drug, toxicology and clinical trials.
Milestones to be developed jointly with the partner.
