Use of a growth stimulator, Acuabio 1, in aquatic species (fish and crustaceans) for aquaculture improvements

Therapeutic area

Agriculture Area: Aquaculture

Goal

To evaluate in autochthonous aquaculture species (eg. shrimp, salmon, tilapia, carp, oysters and others) from other countries, a CIGB´s growth stimulator formula registered as Acuabio 1, able to improve surviving, growth and homogeneity rate during aquatic farming.

Description

The Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology has developed a growth stimulator formula (Acuabio 1) able to improve surviving, growth and homogeneity during aquatic farming when used on aquatic species. The result has been already tested in Cuba at laboratory and pilot scale, and it is in process of introduction into the Cuban national aquaculture program sponsored by the Cuban Fisheries Minister. This product is based in an exact combination of proteins able to promote in aquatic organisms significant improvements regarding optimal growth and better health showing a positive impact in quality parameters in aquaculture. When tested in shrimps Acuabio 1 generated:

•  Increase larvae surviving during shrimp farming (10-20% in larvae stage).

•  Increase standard size and weight of whole population during adult farming is achieved only if good care of animals is taken by aquaculture farm.

Type of collaboration requested

Financial support for establishing evaluation agreements to test Acuabio 1 in autochthonous aqua cultured species. Support for identifying suitable production counterparts for extending Acuabio 1 into specific regional aqua cultured production sectors.

Evaluation agreement based in testing Acuabio 1 effect in specific aqua cultured species, linked to a milestone payment structure.

Commercial agreement for specific territories.

Competitives advantages Milestones

Acuabio 1 is a unique product worldwide; therefore, evaluation in autochthonous aquaculture species is recommended.
